Methodology
How to interpret house price data:
- Nominal vs. real prices: Nominal figures show reported price changes. Inflation-adjusted figures show whether house prices have increased or decreased in real terms.
- National averages: Country-level data can hide significant differences between cities, regions and property types.
- Methodology: Depending on the source, the data may reflect transaction prices, asking prices or a house price index. Historical figures may also be revised.
- Investment returns: House price growth does not include rental income, transaction costs, taxes, financing costs or currency movements.
