Thu Duc is an urban district in Ho Chi Minh City. It is made up of 12 wards: Bình Chiu, Bình Th, Tam Bình, Tam Phú, Trường Th, Linh Đông, Linh Tây, Hip Bình Chánh, Hip Bình Phước, Linh Trung, and Linh Xuân. The southern part of this district was split to create Ho Chi Minh’s 2nd and 9th district in 1997.

During the existence of South Vietnam, Thu Duc was the home of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam’s military academy. Nowadays, it is more known for Nem Thủ Đức, a sweet and sour fermented pork dish wrapped in tiger’s claw leaves and banana leaves.
