Potts Point (a prime area) is one of the more elegant suburbs of inner Sydney. Grand old mansions and architectural monuments from the 1800s and early 1900s blend well with high-end apartment buildings converted or rebuilt from existing tourist hotels. Posh commercial establishments were built here as part of the district’s gentrification.
Two of the best-known mansions in Potts Point are Elizabeth Bay House and Tusculum House, which are representatives of colonial and Art Deco architecture, respectively. When the sun sets, the locality of Kings Cross transforms into a nightlife district, with its all-night dance clubs, strip joints and adult bookstores. Two of Kings Cross’s green areas, Embarkation Park and Fitzry Gardens, are also well-known gay cruising areas.
