The region of Oued Ed Dahab-Lagouira lies in the disputed territory of Western Sahara. Its capital is the coastal city of Dakhla, which used to be called Villa Cisneros. The prefecture of Aousserd and the province of Oued Ed Dahab-Lagouira make up this region.
Aousserd is a small town in the part of the Western Sahara clearly under Moroccan rule. With a principally nomadic population that constantly moves in and out of the region, Aousserd contains just a handful of permanent structures.
