Originally a part of the Bang Khen district, Chatuchak is known for its shopping and recreation areas. Chatuchak Park, Queen Sirikit Park, and Wachirabenchatat Park are lovely green oases in the middle of the city. Wachirabenchatat has a butterfly garden and the tallest fountain in Thailand.
The Chatuchak Weekend Market has gained notoriety for its wares, which include animals that were illegally taken from their natural habitats.
Another notable landmark in Chatuchak is the whimsical Elephant Building. The edifice consists of three towers connected horizontally at the top, forming an M shape and, from afar, a stylized elephant. Condominium and office spaces are available.
