Properties in 9th Arrondissement FranceThe 9th has long been favored by artistic types. Impressionists used to meet in a now defunct café in place Pigalle, a nightclub district in the north where the cancan dancers have been performing in the Folies-Bergère since 1868. Pigalle is also known for cheap shopping, like the neighboring Montmartre. The Southern area is more of a mundane business and residential area like 2e. Department stores Au Printemps and Galeries Lafayette not only offer a variety of goods but are among the oldest department stores. Au Printemps has just a few remnants of its turn of the century architecture but Lafayette’s Art Nouveau details in its interior are beautifully preserved. Nearby is where the original Paris Opera house immortalized in The Phantom of the Opera is located.

There are large prestigious apartments in the centre of the 9th arrondissement, and in the north. However, the district does not offer a great deal for families, and is more suited to the adventurous.

There’s a mix of traditional architecture and modern developments, which will suit a range of budgets. But the lack of green space and squares gives this area a very densely urban feel.
