A survey by property website Rightmove shows that when it comes to predicting what will happen to UK house prices in the coming year, there is not one prevailing opinion among potential buyers.

Thirty-two percent of the survey participants expect house prices to fall in the next 12 months, but 27% think they will go higher in the same period. And 36% think that the market will stagnate and that housing prices will remain unchanged.

This is a significant change from last year's survey, when 56% correctly predicted that house prices would rise, and only around 10% thought otherwise.

About 27% of respondents who predicted the slump expressed concern about the economy, while one third of those who expect higher prices do so because of their confidence in the economy.
